En Marzo del 2018 enseñé este Taller Experimental de Técnica Mixta Sobre Papel en colaboración con el Centro Comunitario EducArte y el Proyecto Capaz en Antigua, Guatemala. EducArte es un centro comunitario que trabaja por los derechos de las mujeres y niños a una educación digna. Es por esto que a través de voluntarios ofrece talleres de arte para que niños y niñas puedan expresarse, donde se les enseña en un ambiente seguro de respeto hacia el otro e igualdad de género. Muchos de los niños que llegan al centro buscando participar de las actividades viven en situaciones muy vulnerables. Es por esto que propuse enseñar un taller que fuese experimental y de técnica mixta para que los niños pudiesen expresarse con libertad. Cuando Proyecto Capaz supo de este taller, me mandaron varios alumnos más para que pudieran participar. Proyecto Capaz es un programa extracurricular que brinda un espacio seguro para las niñas y niños de la comunidad junto con tutoría, nutrición y actividades. Estas organizaciones sin fines de lucro se enfocan en ofrecer un espacio seguro dónde los niños puedan ir después del colegio, ya que en Antigua la jornada escolar termina muy temprano y de otra manera los niños pasarían mucho tiempo sin supervisión mientras los padres siguen trabajando. Así, con los niños y niñas de EducArte y Proyecto Capaz hicimos este taller con el que obtuvimos excelentes resultados. Al final cada alumno expuso una de sus obras en una Exposición que titulamos "Colores que hablan". Para los niños ver sus obras expuestas de esa manera y poder compartir sus logros con la comunidad los hizo sentirse empoderados e importantes.
In March of the year 2018 I taught this Mixed Technique on Paper Experimental Workshop in collaboration with Centro Comunitario EducArte and Proyecto Capaz in Antigua, Guatemala. EducArte is a community centre that works for the rights of women and children to a worthy education. They offer art workshops -taught by volunteers- to children so that they can have a safe space to express themselves. Many of the boys and girls that come to the centre wanting to participate in the activities are living in vulnerable situations. This is why I proposed to teach a workshop that allowed the children to experiment with mixed technique and express themselves freely. When Proyecto Capaz heard of this, they sent over some of their students who also wanted to be a part of it. Proyecto Capaz is an extracurricular program that offers a safe space for girls and boys from the community around Antigua and gives them access to tutoring, nutrition and other activities. These organizations are non-profit and their focus is to facilitate a gender equal safe space where the children can further their education after school. This is a very important mission since class ends very early in the day in public schools around Antigua and the children would otherwise go unsupervised for long periods of time while their parents are still at work. Together with the children from EducArte and Proyecto Capaz we had a very successful workshop that ended with an Exhibition titled "Colors that Speak". Seeing their works officially exhibited and being able to share them with the community gave the children an amazing sense of accomplishment and empowerment.
